For those of us who remember the challenge of finding the "hidden track" on CD's or LP's (that's vinyl, for you whippersnappers!), Easter eggs are the DVD equivalent. Here's a short history lesson: The electronic Easter egg has been around almost as long as computer software has existed. Programmers would hide messages, graphics, or credits within the code of a program, accessible only when the user performed an obscure set of steps. You can probably find some eggs in the software on your computer or even hidden in plain sight. With the invention of DVDs, producers started to include hidden information such as video interviews, audio clips, bonus images, credits, and so forth in a way that's not obvious without poking around on the disc. This technique has become very popular on mainstream DVDs, with hundreds of eggs scattered throughout many of the most popular movies and videos. As the adult DVD industry matures, Easter eggs are becoming more and more common as undocumented extras on porn discs. In order to help out the egg hunters out there, I'm maintaining a list of adult DVD Easter eggs. To the right is a list of adult DVDs that have hidden special features. Please be aware the entries describe the eggs and the steps needed to find them. So if you want to find the eggs yourself, beware of these spoilers. As always, contributions are welcome (and will be credited) -- please send your finds to saki@sakivision.com. Here's an example of an Easter egg--from Adam & Eve's Appassionata: Step 1: Insert Disc 2 of Appassionata. The following menu will appear and the "Bloopers" option will be selected. Notice that there are many extras, but there is no option to see the movie's script. But...
Step 2: ...if you use your DVD remote and press the left arrow button, a fried egg (get it, an egg?) will appear where there once was a drawing of a bee.
Step 3: By pressing the Select (or Enter) button on your remote, the following screen will appear:
Step 4: Click on the "next" button to start reading Asia's annotated outline of her "awesome piano movie."
Keep in mind that the difficulty in finding Easter eggs varies depending on the producer. Sometimes it's as easy as randomly moving the menu selector around until you see something change. Other times, it's a bit harder. Just keep looking, and stop by here to learn about the known adult Easter eggs or to report new ones you've found. Enjoy!
